Audition Details
The Children’s Chorus of Carroll County welcomes all interested children, kindergarten-age and older. The scope and variety of our programs is tailored to provide skill-appropriate opportunities for all members. Children entering second grade in the fall of 2012 and those who are older may be eligible for placement in a performing ensemble. Those entering kindergarten or first grade will be in a class designed as an introduction to the world of music and movement.
FAQs
Q. Do I have to live in Carroll County to be in the Chorus?
A. The vast majority of members are residents of Carroll County, but the Chorus has no residency requirement. We welcome members from all over the immediate Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania area.
Q. What happens at the audition?
A. A small group of children will be escorted into the audition room where they will meet several Chorus directors. After brief introductions, the entire group will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” to Mickey Mouse. Next, they may be asked to sing a familiar round, like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” to determine their melodic independence. (This is not an expectation for the youngest children.) Then there will be a short echo-singing session to ascertain aural pitch matching. An easy game involving reading very simple musical examples is the final activity.
Q. What if my child doesn’t know how to read any music?
A. The music reading does not determine acceptance into the group. It is a tool for the directors to help determine the level of difficulty for the next season’s pieces.
Q. How long does it take?
A. The time spent with the directors is typically between seven to ten minutes.
Q. Do we need to sign-up in advance?
A. No, but do come on-time or a bit early. There is paperwork to be completed before the actual audition.
Q. Is there a charge for the audition?
A. The audition is free.
Q. Will my child be told that night if he/she is accepted?
A. No. Acceptance and Wait List Students will be listed on this website, www.ccccnotes.com, by June 15. Students who are not ready for membership will receive notice in the US mail; their names will not appear online.
THE BOYS GROUP
*Children’s Chorus is introducing a group specifically for young male singers, including changed and unchanged voices, under the direction of Mr. Jeff Liebknecht, director of The Old Line Statesmen Barbershop Chorus. Young men whose voices have changed or who are in the process of changing are encouraged to audition for this group. If the directors determine that the voice has not changed, membership in the most advanced treble group of the Chorus, Cantare Bel Canto, will be a pre-requisite to belonging to the boys group. If the singer’s voice has changed, membership in just the boys group will be suggested.
Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening starting the first Tuesday after Labor Day.
Tuesday evening rehearsals will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.
